Palmetto Hunger Project summer drive

  • Friday, May 16, 2014

Community of Charleston is coming together to host the Palmetto Hunger Project and provide 50,000 healthy meals for hungry children and families during the summer months.

Participants will be hand-packaging 50,000 healthy meals that will be distributed throughout the Charleston area. There will be great music, good fun and the chance to make a tangible difference in the life of a hungry child.

Six out of seven low-income kids who eat a free or reduced-price school lunch during the academic year do not get a free meal during the summer. The community has an opportunity to provide for these children during the summer months. Through this Hunger Project, you are helping fill hungry bellies right here at home.

The event is Saturday, May 17, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Mount Pleasant Recreation Department’s Jones Center Complex at 391 Egypt Road in Mount Pleasant.

The event sponsor will be providing the participants for this event. Please consider donating towards this project. Every $10 provides 40 healthy meals. Volunteer spots are currently full. As more donations come in, more spots will open.

You can also give by donating the following items at the event. If you are unable to volunteer, you can still drop off these much needed items: bottled water, canned chicken, canned tuna, canned fruit, canned vegetables, crackers, granola bars, baby food and formula, powdered milk and dry cereals, peanut butter.

To donate to this event using checks, please send to Feeding Children Everywhere, 830 South Ronald Reagan Blvd. Unit 142, Longwood, Florida 32750. Please add in the memo of the check which event your donation should go towards (Palmetto Hunger Project).
