  • Saturday, May 17, 2014

Wando boys soccer punched its ticket back into the Class AAAA Lower State championship game Saturday with a 3-0 third-round shutout of Lexington.

Wando played in seven straight Lower State title games before last season’s early playoff exit. The No. 3 ranked Warriors (27-1-1) return this season to face South Aiken, the fifth-ranked team in the state.

Jon Milligan earned the shutout in goal Saturday. Milligan and the Warriors defense have yet to allow a single goal this postseason.

Ryan Meade put Wando on top with a goal in the 35th minute off a cross from Andrew Johnson.

Logan Chalfie added Wando’s second goal off a deflection in the 64th minute. Tucker Heffron netted one more in the 77th to stretch open the Warriors’ largest margin of victory in the playoffs.

South Aiken (19-2-1) topped Ashley Ridge, 3-0, Saturday to advance to the Lower State title game.
