Glenn Finley and Dodd Wood, both of Belton, South Carolina, weighed a two-redfish limit that totaled 9.24 pounds to win the first regular-season event for the Atlantic Division of the IFA Redfish Tour presented by Cabela’s at Charleston, South Carolina, on May 3.
Partnering together for the last six years for IFA Redfish events, the anglers have racked up two IFA regular-season wins and an IFA Championship victory. Fighting windy conditions, the team experienced a tough bite during the event while fishing flooded grass with Berkley Gulp and swimbaits.
“We struggled all week to find slot fish. On Thursday and Friday, we found two different spots that held some slot fish,” said Finley. “They didn’t have many, but we knew they were very healthy. We were blessed with two of the better ones.”
The anglers won a new, fully-rigged Ranger boat powered by a Yamaha outboard valued at $25,995 for first place and added $2,415 in Anglers Advantage cash.
David Rupert and Addison Rupert, both of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, brought 8.86 pounds to the scales to take home the $1,685 second-place prize while adding $1,207 in Anglers Advantage cash. The anglers ran 12 miles to the Intra-Coastal Waterway, fishing creeks with Berkley Gulp shrimp and jerkbaits
Tom Player and Andy Nelms, both of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, repeated their third-place finish from last year’s event at Charleston with 8.21 pounds of redfish. Running a total of 25 miles to the north side of the Isle of Palms, the anglers didn’t have much success with sight-fishing.
“We fished Berkley Gulp shrimp, dead sticking mostly,” said Player. “The water came in fast and was very dirty. We caught four but lost four more. It was a great tournament, as always, by the IFA.”
