The Moultrie News and Mount Pleasant Recreation Department come together each week to feature a local track or cross-country athlete from East Cooper as part of MPRD spotlight.
Chloe Berda, 11, and Christopher Colangelo, 11, both run with the Mount Pleasant Track Club (MPTC). Berda competes in the javelin throw, 1,500-meter dash and 800, while Colangelo competes in the 1,500, 800 and long jump.
If you could be anyone for a day, who would you be?
Berda: I would like to be an Olympic runner.
Colangelo: Stephen Stamkos, Tampa Bay Lightning hockey player.
What’s your favorite Mount Pleasant restaurant?
C: Wild Wing Café. I love their wings.
What’s the best moment of your athletic career?
B: When I got ninth at regional for cross-country and 12th in the nation for javelin.
C: Winning the AAA hockey division championship.
What’s the best advice you’ve received from a coach?
B: Run my own race.
C: Never give up.
What do you look forward to most about being an adult?
B: Coaching MPTC and helping future athletes.
C: I’d say, driving a car.
What are the most difficult, and what are the most fun aspects of track?
B: The most difficult is being so competitive with everything and the pain you get when you’re running, but the fun thing is winning and good results.
C: Running is the most fun. Long jump is the most difficult for me, but I just started the sport.
What is your favorite movie and favorite TV show?
B: “Master of Disguise” and “Kim of Queens.”
C: “We are the Titans” and “America’s Funniest Home Videos.”
If you could have dinner with any three people, who would you choose?
B: Beyonce, Usain Bolt, an Olympic recruiter and the founder of Nike.
C: Wayne Gretzky, Bobby Orr and Usain Bolt.
