Reggae Concert Series kicks off June 6

  • Friday, May 23, 2014

The Reggae Night Summer Concert Series is moving to Fridays. The Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission (CCPRC) will kick off the first concert of the series on Friday, June 6, at James Island County Park. Gates open at 7:30 p.m. and music by De Lions of Jah begins at 8:30 p.m.

De Lions of Jah is an eclectic reggae group that fuses traditional roots music with contemporary dance hall and dub influences. The band originates from and is based in Jacksonville, Florida, with members from around the world, including a lead singer from Antigua, a keyboardist from St. Thomas and a drummer from Charleston.

For the perfect cool ending to a hot summer day, bring your chair or blanket, kick back, and relax to an awesome outdoor reggae concert in the beautiful setting of James Island County Park. All ages are invited. Hungry concert-goers can purchase Caribbean-style dishes and festival foods on site at the event. Crafters and other vendors will be on site displaying local handmade crafts and souvenirs available for purchase.

Additional reggae concerts will take place on Fridays throughout the summer at James Island County Park.

Tickets can be purchased at the gate. Tickets are $8 for adults (13 and up); children ages 12 and under are free. Current Gold Pass holders are also admitted free. Gold Passes will not be sold on site, but may be purchased in advance at www.goldpassmember.com for $65 ($80 for non-Charleston County residents). Gold Passes allow park admission to a variety of county parks and events for the family for a full year.

No outside alcohol or coolers are permitted into the event. James Island County Park is located at 871 Riverland Drive.
