The awards continue to roll in for one of East Cooper’s most decorated high school athletes.

Bishop England senior Michele Boykin was named the Class AA South Carolina Coaches Association for Women’s Sports Player of the Year in both basketball and track this week.

Boykin helped the Lady Bishops to their second consecutive state championship with a first-place finish in the 800-meter dash and second-place finishes in the 1,600 and 3,200. For the second straight year, she was part of the Bishops’ state champion 800-meter relay team.

In March, she guided the Lady Bishops basketball team to its second state championship in three years. As the team’s starting shooting guard, she averaged 19 points, five rebounds, four assists and five steals through 28 games. Bishop England lost just once all season and outscored opponents by 41 points per game in the playoffs.

Boykin is signed to play basketball for Hillsdale College in Michigan next season.
