Henry Goldsmith and Jack Carson PROVIDED

The Moultrie News and Mount Pleasant Recreation Department (MPRD) come together each week to feature a local track or cross-country athlete from East Cooper as part of MPRD spotlight.

Henry Goldsmith and Jack Carson both run with the Mount Pleasant Track Club. Goldsmith, 8, competes in the shot-put, 800-meter dash and 1,500, while Carson, 13, runs in the 100, 200, 400 and does the long jump.

If you could be anyone for a day, who would you be?

Goldsmith: Usain Bolt.

Carson: Adrian Peterson of the Minnesota Vikings.

What's your favorite Mount Pleasant restaurant?

G: Five Guys

C: Red's Ice House.

What's the best moment of your athletic career?

G: Winning first place in the 800 meter at our home meet.

C: Making a touchdown and game-saving tackle in football last season.

What's the best advice you've received from a coach?

G: To lean back to get more power in my shot-put and don't look back when running.

C: Run faster.

What do you look forward to most about being an adult?

G: Staying up late and playing outside with kids and taking my kids on a cruise for vacation.

C: The fact that I can make my own choices.

What are the most difficult, and what are the most fun aspects of track?

G: Difficult is running with nine- and 10-year-olds. Fun is doing so well in my age group and winning a race.

C: Difficult is that there is always somebody better than you and fun is that there is no shortage of competition.

What is your favorite movie and favorite TV show?

G: “The Lego Movie” and “Chima”

C: “The Matrix” series

If you could have dinner with any three people, who would you choose?

G: Cam Newton, Usain Bolt and Alexander the Great.

C: Adrian Peterson, George Patton and Albert Einstein.
