The Mount Pleasant Fire Department (MPFD) has just taken delivery of its newest quick-response vehicle, a 2014 Chevy Tahoe that is equipped to deliver Advanced Life Saving (ALS) care to the citizens of the community.
This latest unit, Squad 504, will be assigned to the fire station on Six Mile Road and will provide paramedic-level care to parts of the northern district of the community.
“The unit is the second of the projected three quick-response vehicles envisioned when looking at the business model of providing better and quicker medical care while saving fuel costs, wear and tear on the higher priced fire trucks,” said Fire Chief Herb Williams.
Sixty-three percent of all calls that the Mount Pleasant Fire Department staff responds to are medical calls.
In the first full year since Squad 507 has been placed in service, the fire department saved approximately 3,000 gallons of diesel fuel. The savings are generated due to a more fuel-efficient SUV responding to medical calls rather than the heavy rescue or a fire engine.
