Four East Cooper softball players have been selected to this year's S.C. Coaches Association of Women's Sports all-star and all-state teams.
Wando senior left-fielder Morgan Howard was named to the Class 4A/1A South all-star team, while Bishop England senior shortstop Eran Artigues was selected to the Class 3A/2A South team. Howard hit 13 RBIs and scored 15 runs leading the Lady Warriors into the AAAA Lower State tournament as their senior captain this season. Artigues hit .652 with 33 RBIs, seven doubles and two home runs, and finished the season with a .833 fielding average.
Artigues was also named Class AA All-State, along with teammate Elena Salmorin. The freshman second baseman hit .551 this season with 11 RBIs, and had a .875 fielding average. Wando sophomore catcher Kalya Bannister received Class AAAA All-State honors, hitting .398 with 21 RBIs and 24 runs scored. Bannister is currently playing for a Premier Girls Fastpitch national championship with her summer ball team, Carolina Elite.
The North-South all-star games will be played June 13-14 at J.H. Satcher Field at USC Aiken. The SCCAWS all-state teams will be honored at halftime.
