More than 2,700 swimmers jumped back in pools across the Lowcountry Tuesday for opening day of the 2014 Coastal Carolina Aquatic Association dual meet season.
CCAA kicked off the summer with its traditional out-of-league Red vs. White matchups, including a clash of two of last year's best. Three-time defending CCAA city champion Coosaw Creek hosted 2013 defending White League co-champion Dunes West. Led by Tennessee signee Micah Bohon and USC signee Jeremiah Bohon, Coosaw downed Dunes West 305-230 for its 36th consecutive dual meet win.
Perennial Red League power Snee Farm turned in the day's most dominating performance with a 429-108 home win over Newington. Daniel Island won 312-224 over Crowfield. Brickyard fell 331-196 to Parkshore. Hobcaw topped James Island 306-226. Longpoint lost to Northbridge 360-177, and Shadowmoss defeated Sha-Mel-Lon 325-209.
In the Blue League, Ashborough slid by I'On 293-242. Country Club of Charleston topped the Jewish Community Center 404-95, and Pine Forest beat Fort Johnson 293-244. Legend Oaks at Summerville was suspended due to a power outage. A makeup date has yet to be determined.
Teams move into league play Thursday with dual meets that count toward the regular season championship standings. The Red League championship could be decided in the first league meet as Snee Farm travels to rival Coosaw. Snee Farm's one loss last season came at home against Coosaw. The last time Coosaw lost a dual meet was in 2009 at Snee Farm.
Daniel Island travels to Shadowmoss, while Hobcaw has a bye.
Longpoint hosts Brickyard, Dunes West has a bye, and I'On hosts Legend Oaks.
