Students will learn aboard J-22s. PROVIDED

The College of Charleston Sailing Association offers a number of non-credit, adult community sailing classes that run from April through August.

The classes last about three weeks and include 15 hours of instruction on-the-water and two, two-hour-long classroom sessions.

These are group classes with a maximum of 18 students per class, three students per boat. A head instructor and an assistant teach the class in an organized drill method.

The boats on which students will are J-22s, a safe and responsive sailboat with keel, 22 feet in length, and are among the most widely used instructional boats in the nation.

The boats have been modified for instructional purposes, allowing for maximum learning situations and a comfortable sailing experience.

The College of Charleston's sailing complex is located at the Patriots Point Marina in Mount Pleasant, adjacent to the Charleston Harbor Resort and Marina Hotel.

Once on the marina dock, follow the signs to C of C Sailing. Please feel free to visit the sailing center, inspect the fleet and talk to the friendly staff.
