After three years of swimming in the shadow of Coosaw Creek, traditional power Snee Farm is back on top of the Coastal Carolina Aquatic Association.
Snee Farm downed rival Coosaw Creek, 286-250, Thursday in North Charleston to deal the three-time defending CCAA city champion Crocs their first dual-meet loss since 2009.
Coosaw fought back from an early deficit and positioned themselves 27 points down by the 50th event with relays still left to swim. But with a strong showing in the relays, especially in the younger divisions, Snee Farm held on for the dual-meet victory to take firm control of the Red League.
Snee Farm and Coosaw will square off again in the CCAA city meet, beginning July 18 at Crowfield Golf and Country Club in Goose Creek. The two have finished as the top two teams in the city each of the past six years.
Daniel Island opened league play Thursday with a 311-226 win over Shadow Moss, while Northbridge topped Parkshore 370-173, and Hobcaw had a bye.
Longpoint cruised past Brickyard, 342-185, in the White League. Crowfield got past Newington 271-266, Sha-Mel-Lon defeated James Island 279-257, and Dunes West had a bye.
In the Blue League, Pine Forest topped Country Club of Charleston 325-212, Fort Johnson beat the Jewish Community Center 399-123 and Ashborough down Summerville 349-185.
Snee Farm travels to Daniel Island Tuesday, Hobcaw is at Northbridge Terrace, Dunes West visits Crowfield, Brickyard hosts James Island, Longpoint hosts Sha-Mel-Lon, and I'On is at the Jewish Community Center.
