Learn proper canning this summer

  • Sunday, June 22, 2014

The summer canning season is here. Now is the time to sign up for canning classes offered through the local Clemson Extension Service. Five classes will be offered at locations in Berkeley, Charleston and Dorchester counties. Persons who would like to become skilled in using the water-bath method may take “Pickles and Relishes,” “Tomatoes,” “Fruits” or “Jams and Jellies.” A pressure-canning class is scheduled for September.

The Pickles and Relishes class will take place at the Dorchester County Extension Office in St. George on June 26. The Tomatoes class will take place on July 26 at Cypress Gardens. Jams and Jellies will be taught at Carolina Harvest in Moncks Corner on Sept. 6. A Charleston location for the other two classes will be announced later. Additional classes can be scheduled for groups of six to eight persons.

Each class will cost $30. Classes will last for two to three hours. Online registration can be found at www.shopping.clemson.edu. Contact Gayle Williford at 843-719-4140 or gwillif@clemson.edu for more information.
