  • Monday, June 23, 2014

The Joe and the annual Ballpark Festival of Beers have been synonymous with Lowcountry fun for more than a decade. The festival, presented by The Kickin' Chicken, will continue to offer some of the finest beers on Earth while also capturing the enthusiasm for local food trucks.

Attendees can sample more than 100 varieties of beer including American and international ales, stouts, lagers, pilsners and specialty brews to quench the taste buds of every die-hard beer enthusiast at Joseph P. Riley Jr. Park on Saturday, Aug. 23. This year, there will be two sessions.

Both sessions will feature live music, food trucks, corn hole and beer sampling.

The first session, from 1-4 p.m., is family-friendly and the first 1,000 people through the gates will receive a commemorative glass which includes tickets, each good for a sample of their favorite beers. There will be an interactive Kids Zone, an arts and craft station and plenty of space on the field to run around.

The second session, from 6-9 p.m., is only for those age 21 and over, and the first 2,000 people through the gates for the second session will receive a free commemorative sampling glass. Q104.5 will once again host a corn hole tournament, and those interested in participating in the tournament should visit www.Q1045.com for more information.

The Joe will also have an array of delicious food available to soak up the suds which are sure to satisfy the palates of everyone in attendance. Food trucks will provide a variety of delicacies and the list of trucks includes The Kickin' Chicken, Hello My Name is BBQ, Roti Rolls, Cast Iron and the Creole Food Truck.

“In an on-going effort to promote responsible drinking, a designated driver wristband for $15 will be available for purchase at the stadium box office on Aug. 23 only for both sessions. Green Taxi and CoPilot Designated Drivers will also be on site,” said RiverDogs Vice President of Special Events Melissa Azevedo.

Advanced tickets are now on sale for $25 per session and may be purchased at any area Kickin' Chicken location. Advanced and day-of tickets are $30 at the RiverDogs Box Office or online at www.riverdogs.com or www.rileyparkevents.com. The Ballpark Festival of Beers is a rain-or-shine event.
