Charleston Watersports Week celebrates its first year this September. PROVIDED

The inaugural Charleston Watersports Week will be held Sept. 5-14, the Charleston Area Sports Commission (CASC) announced.

The event series consists of water-based activities, competitive, recreational, instructional and leisurely, ranging from elite stand-up paddle boarding competitions to sunset excursions for groups. An expo will be held for three days at the Charleston Maritime Center and Charleston Harbor.

Charleston Watersports Week aims to utilize the areaís natural environment while promoting one of the areaís best assets for sports activity, waterways and oceanfronts.

The initiative includes a unique combination of venues, accommodations, restaurants, attractions and tour operators spread across the Charleston area.

The primary goal is to provide an active getaway vacation for watersports enthusiasts and athletes after the summerís peak tourism season.

Organizers will engage in a two-month marketing campaign that targets potential visitors in key markets. Charleston Restaurant Week and Charleston Beer Week will be held during the same time.

If interested in participating as an event organizer or expo vendor, contact the CASC at sports@explorecharleston.com. Activities and events are added daily at www.watersportsweek.com.
