Ashley’s winning poster for The Art Institutes and Americans for the Arts Poster Design Scholarship Competition ASHLEY DEVANEY

While some high school students spend their free period in study hall, Ashley Devaney spent her free time in a computer lab, honing her design skills. Along with dedicating her time to design and taking multiple art classes in school, she also studied under a local Charleston graffiti artist outside of school time.

Recently, Ashley earned the title of The Art Institutes and Americans for the Arts Poster Design Scholarship Competition 2014 high school senior category winner and a full tuition scholarship to attend The Art Institute of Charleston. Ashley says she developed the idea for her poster by “clipping” and piecing together ideas in her head then compiling them into a cohesive design by using a digital imaging program. She often finds most of her inspiration in music and is drawn to subjects that show emotion, nature and fashion to lend to her designs. One of the aspects she likes most about being a designer is working with digital programs to create limitless and unique designs.

After furthering her education at The Art Institute of Charleston, Ashley plans to pursue her ultimate goal of working for Disney.
