Youth shines at Mt. Pleasant Jr. Open

Fifty-five junior golfers teed off in the 13th annual Mount Pleasant Junior Golf Open last week at Patriots Point Links.

Co-hosted by the Mount Pleasant Recreation Department, the junior open drew a field of 8- to 18-year-olds from across the state for the two-day event.

Waymon Thomas shot a 61 to beat Daniel Donato by two strokes in the boys 8-9 division. John Michael Flinton shot a 76 to win the boys 10-12. Kayla Bartemeyer shot an 89 to win the girls 10-12. John Paul Valasquez shot a 148 to edge Jacob Morris by one stroke in the boys 13-14 division. Delanie Mortier shot a 157 to win the girls 13-14 division by 21 strokes. B.J. Grevey fended off Ethan Willis with a 146 to win the boys 15-18 division by two strokes. Grayson Henley won the girls 15-18 division with a 221.
