Sullivanís Island Fire and Rescue will host its annual fish fry Saturday, June 28 from 5-8 p.m. Customers can enjoy a seafood entree of fried whitening, fries and hush puppies for five dollars. One dollar hot dogs will also be available.
Originating as a benefit to support a fellow friendís opporation in 1949, the fish fry is highly anticipated every year by East Cooper residents.
Chief of Sullivanís Island Fire and Rescue Anthony Stith described it as a ďhomecommingĒ for familes whoíve moved from Sullivanís Island, as they always return to eat and fellowship in the island breeze.
Proceeds from the annual fundraiser help finance equipment for the department, including rescue boats, pickup trucks, jet skis and other maintenance material. Recently, the department rescued a dog at sea and, coincidently, the jet-ski used for the mission was funded by proceeds from the fish fries. The dogís owner made sure to promote the fundraising event to spectators at Station 19 on the beach.
The benefit will be held at Fish Fry Shack at Station 15 and Middle Street. East Cooper band Yesterdayís Wine will perform. Advanced tickets are available at the Fire Station, Town Hall, Simmons Seafood or Harris Teeter located at the Sea Island Shopping Center of Mount Pleasant.
