Local sailor Austin Ando qualified for the United States National Sailing Team after a top finish at the United States Optimist Dinghy Association team trials.

Ando, a 15-year-old sailor with Hobcaw Yacht Club, Prime Team and Lake Ontario Optimist Team, finished 38th out of 217 sailors at the team trials in Stamford, Connecticut in May.

The team trials bring together the top youth sailors in the nation to compete for a spot on the U.S. National team. Ando also earned the opportunity to represent the U.S. at the British National Championship in Portland, England in August.
