Benefit party

When: June 28, 4-7 p.m.

Where: Morgan Creek Grill on the Isle of Palms

Details: Local islander, realtor and friend to many, Joann Leigh, was recently diagnosed with stage four brain cancer. There will be a benefit party to celebrate her life and courage and to raise money for her medical bills.

Morgan Creek Grill will serve complimentary appetizers and happy hour priced drinks. Satellite Rodeo and friends will perform live music.

Details: VFW Post 10624 will be hosting a steak dinner. Tickets are $10.

Details: New York Times best-selling author Patti Callahan Henry will be at Blue Bicycle Books for a discussion and reading event with fellow author Katie Crouch.

East Cooper Democrats

What: Join the East Cooper Democrats Wednesday, June 25 for their monthly meeting at the Olive Brach AME Church Annex 1734 Hwy 17 N in Mt. Pleasant. Meeting will begin at 7 p.m.

Details: Speakers will be Janet Segal from the Charleston County Library Board and Rep. David Mack (D-109). Segal will discuss the upcoming library bond referendum which passed final reading by Charleston County Council Tuesday, June 17. The referendum will be on November’s ballot.

Rep. David Mack (D-109) who represents portions of East Cooper will recap the 120th session of the South Carolina General Assembly and take questions from constituents.
