Police Blotter – Coming out of the bush

  • Monday, June 30, 2014

When a homeowner heard some rustling in the bushes in his backyard, he grabbed his double-barrel shotgun and went to confront whatever it was, a police report said. He pointed the gun and demanded the person come out of the bushes. According to the report, it turned out to be a man collecting sweetgrass. When the homeowner realized the person was not a threat, he lowered the gun and told the man he needed to leave, the report said.

The homeowner then called police and reported the incident. The homeowner said he wanted the man placed on trespass notice due to the fact that he was out of town a lot, the report said.

Police located the suspect on his bike up the road. He told officers he had been given permission by another homeowner to enter the marsh and collect the sweetgrass. He said he never even noticed the shotgun in the manís hand but left when he was asked to do so.

He accepted the no trespass notice and went to look for grass somewhere else.
