South State Bank revealed new signage at the SCBT James Island and Mount Pleasant branches as the bank’s four brands come together under one name, South State Bank.

SCBT, Community Bank and Trust, North Carolina Bank and Trust, and The Savannah Bank will changed signage and name to South State Bank by Monday, June 30. The bank’s fifth brand, First Federal will change its name on July 21. In the Grand Strand, Charleston, Hilton Head and Florence markets, customers will see the South State brand change on SCBT branches prior to introducing the new brand at First Federal locations.

As South State Bank, the bank will offer more than 135 banking locations across North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia, providing its customers with the same great community bank service with more convenience.

Kelly Services, Inc.

Kelly Educational Staffing (KES®), a specialty service of Kelly Services, Inc., a leader in providing workforce solutions, has selected Paige Hoagland as the South Carolina Substitute Teacher of the Year for the 2013-2014 school year. Ms. Hoagland, a substitute teacher in the Charleston County School District, is being recognized for outstanding performance and service as a KES substitute teacher.

A resident of Charleston, Ms. Hoagland is an elementary and guidance certified teacher. She holds a master’s degree in education from John Hopkins University and has been in the teaching profession for nine years. Presently, she is as a long-term substitute teacher assigned to computer lab teaching over 1,200 students.

Clore Law Group

Mark Clore and Vernon Glenn of Clore Law Group, a Charleston-based catastrophic personal injury and business law firm, have been selected for the 2014 South Carolina Super Lawyers list, and Sam Allen has been selected for the 2014 South Carolina Rising Stars list.

Super Lawyers recognizes attorneys who have distinguished themselves in their legal practice. The selection process is rigorous and results in third-party validation of their professional accomplishments. It is an honor limited to only 5 percent of attorneys in the state who have attained a high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement.

Humanities Foundation

Humanities Foundation, a Mount Pleasant-based developer of affordable housing, has been selected by Affordable Housing Finance (AHF) as one of the top 50 affordable housing developers in the United States.

“We are honored to receive this recognition for the second time,” said Tracy Doran, president of Humanities Foundation. “As a nonprofit organization, we have been focused on our mission to end homelessness by increasing the availability of affordable housing, and this designation reflects our efforts toward growth.”

The AHF designation recognizes the expansion of Humanities Foundation’s affordable housing portfolio, which currently has a $20,000,000 two-phase apartment complex for families under construction in Prince George County, Virginia.

Nelson Mullins

Four Nelson, Mullins, Riley and Scarborough attorneys based in Charleston have been selected by their peers to the 2014 list of South Carolina “Super Lawyers” and “Rising Stars” in their respective practice areas.

The Charleston attorneys listed are: Michael T. Cole, G. Mark Phillips, Eli A. Poliakoff (Rising Star) and John C. Von Lehe Jr.

According to the organization, Super Lawyers names South Carolina’s top lawyers as chosen by their peers and through independent research.

First Federal

First Federal announced that Caroline Lesesne has been named private banker and senior vice president.

With 27 years in the banking industry, Lesesne has experience in the areas of customer service, client management and retail banking management.

A native of Mount Pleasant, Lesesne is a member of the Junior League of Charleston, the National Society of Colonial Dames and the Huguenot Society.

Elite Health Solutions

Drs. Karpinsky and Kukes recently traveled to Augusta, Georgia to treat athletes competing in the Augusta Ironman and while they were there met the requirements and passed the proficiency exam to be biomechanics certified. They are now two of only four biomechanics-certified chiropractic physicians in South Carolina.

College of Charleston

Deanna Demory has joined the College of Charleston as assistant director of Corporate and Foundation Relations.

She has also worked in economic development for the Grand Rapids Chamber of Commerce. She has more than 25 years of experience with nonprofits, including marketing and fundraising responsibilities with both an adoption/human service agency and a drug and alcohol rehabilitation program.

Jarrard, Nowell and Russell

Jarrard, Nowell and Russell, a Charleston-based certified public accounting and business advisory firm, has named Pat Odom senior accountant.

Odom, who has been with the firm since 2012, previously served as a staff accountant. In his new role, he will provide tax preparation and reporting for corporate, partnership, individual and nonprofit clients and will routinely work on business valuations, forensic accounting and due diligence engagements. Odom holds a Master of Accountancy degree in tax and a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from the College of Charleston. He is also a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) and Quickbooks 2013 ProAdvisor.
