Police Blotter – Pot has an odor to it

  • Friday, July 4, 2014

An officer witnessed a driver following cars in front of him too closely. When the officer turned on his blue lights, the driver sped up in an effort to distance himself from the officer, the report said.

The car slowed down as it approached an upcoming road. The officer could see the driver making furtive movements towards the floorboard under his feet. The driver turned but kept slowly stopping and going as he traveled down the street.

The car came to a stop and as the officer approached he could smell raw marijuana coming from inside the car.

According to the report the driver was tightly gripping the steering wheel and appeared agitated.

He kept looking around his car and wanting to use the phone while the officer was trying to talk to him. He finally handed the officers his ID and said his license was suspended.

The officer then asked if there as anything illegal in the car and the driver said no.

He ws asked to step out of the car and when he did he made some funny leg movements, eventually revealing a 9.5 gram bag of what appeared to be pot.

The officer then asked him if he swallowed anything and the driver denied it saying the only thing he had was the bag of pot.

There was a bunch a shake (pieces of pot) all through the car as well as a scale and $190.

He was arrested for simple possession and when officers went to tow the car they learned it was a rental. However the driver did not know the man who he said rented the car for him to let him use it.
