‘Leadership in Action’ debuts for students

  • Wednesday, July 9, 2014

Girl Scouts of Eastern South Carolina (GSESC) proudly announces the kickoff of the Leadership in Action Program, targeting 10th-12th grade girls. Leadership in Action will meet on the main campus of Trident Technical College in North Charleston every third Saturday of the month starting July 19 from 9-11 a.m. Snacks and light refreshments will be provided for program recipients during the meetings, courtesy of Harris Teeter and Publix.

GSESC expects to serve more than 50 tri-county high school girls with this new program. Leadership in Action will emphasize the importance of higher education as well as focus on leadership skills. Each participant must register with Girl Scouts of Eastern South Carolina. The cost is $30 per girl. The participants will be guided through the Girl Scout mission, which is to build girls of courage, confidence and character.

Because of the nature of this program, parents are asked to attend an orientation on July 18 at 6 p.m. at the GSESC office at 7951 Dorchester Road, North Charleston, South Carolina.

Interested girls or parents should RSVP by emailing nicolenick@girlscoutsesc.org. Applicants must register by July 14 in order to attend the orientation. The $30 registration can be paid in person at the GSESC office or online by emailing or calling Leadership In Action Program Coordinator Nicole Nick for the online registration link. Ms. Nick's direct office phone is 843-300-0257.

Sessions will concentrate on topics and skill-building exercises such as: college application process, building and writing a resume, career testing, practicing interview techniques, shadowing a professional in the girl's career of interest, dressing professionally and using proper etiquette. The program will end with a grand finale of career portfolios and visits to college campuses (Francis Marion University, Coastal Carolina University, South Carolina State University and Claflin University).
