Jordan Freeman, a native of Charlotte, North Carolina, has been named the 2014 Lowcountry Race for the Cure Committee co-chairperson, along with Murfreesboro, Tennessee native Kathryn Roberts, for the 21st annual Susan G. Komen Lowcountry Race for the Cure taking place on Saturday, Oct. 18 at the Family Circle Cup Stadium on Daniel Island.
Both women have been actively involved in the Race for the Cure locally for several years.
Jordan Freeman has served as media and stage committee chair in years past and has supported the marketing efforts for the affiliate for several years.
“Being involved has become a passion project of mine, partly to honor those I know who are fighting or have lost their fight to breast cancer, but also because I believe in the work of Komen Lowcountry,” says Freeman. “I have seen first-hand where the funds go from this annual race and have met women whose lives have been changed thanks to our community grants. It's powerful.”.
Kathryn Roberts has been the volunteer coordination chair for three years.
“Being involved with the Race for the Cure brings so much joy to my heart,” said Roberts. “All of the hours and hard work spent by so many volunteers, all of whom are on a mission to help save even one person's life, is inspiring. I originally got involved because I believe in the mission of Komen and what this local group does to serve our community. It truly is more than a race; it's saving lives.”
Komen Lowcountry is also pleased to announce the 2014 presenting sponsor, Palmetto Primary Care Physicians (PPCP). Individuals may also sign up to volunteer by calling 843-556-3343 or visiting www.komenlowcountry.org/volunteer.
