College of Charleston infielder Gunnar Heidt has agreed to terms with the Toronto Blue Jays and will not return to College of Charleston for his senior season.

A native of Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, Heidt was drafted in the 13th round of this year’s MLB Draft, becoming the 14th player drafted under head coach Monte Lee in the last six seasons. He finalized his contract with the Blue Jays this week and will officially sign after the completion of a physical. The Cougar infielder was the fifth-highest draft pick out of the CAA this season.

Heidt was an All-CAA Preseason selection and lived up to his billing throughout the season until he was hit by a pitch in late April and has had to miss time with a broken hand. He returned to the starting lineup as the designated hitter against Texas Tech in the NCAA Super Regional opener.

He finished the season with a team-best .327 average with 30 RBIs, ranking seventh in the CAA in batting average. Heidt’s slugging percentage of .470 ranked on the squad, while his 15 stolen bases ranked third in the CAA despite him missing 19 games. He was named All-CAA First Team and was the CAA Player of the Week on April 14.

Last season, Heidt led the Cougars with a .349 batting average and 54 RBIs. He led the Southern Conference with seven triples and stole 13 bases. He was named the SoCon Player of the Month in March.

He finished his Cougar career with a .309 batting average and 105 RBIs. He knocked 40 doubles and slugged .456 with 35 steals.

College of Charleston signee Nick Wells was also drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays and signed earlier in the summer.
