Striped Pig mascot banned from Second Sunday

  • Tuesday, July 15, 2014

When Striped Pig Distillery's mascot, Jackson the Striped Pig, was named the “Best Liquor Branding” in the city, people began to take even more notice of the slightly different creature roaming King Street on Second Sundays.

“It started out as a fun idea to get people talking about Charleston's first distillery coming to town. Jackson quickly turned into a pet and I have cared very much for him since. There are not many places that we don't go together. Sometimes, Jackson prefers to stay home and chill, but when he's ready to get out and about, he loves nothing more than roaming King Street during Second Sunday and posing for pictures in exchange for a belly rub.” Jim Craig, Jackson's father and an owner of Striped Pig Distillery, said.

Jackson's favorite day of the month has sadly come to an end though, as Second Sunday organizers asked him to stay home during July's event, according to Striped Pig representatives.

“We were all rather shocked. We felt like he added to the fun and unique atmosphere of King Street. He never caused any harm and although he's a hefty guy, there are many dogs that frequent King Street that are much more intimidating. Never the less, Jackson will have to miss out on the fun from now on,” Craig added.
