Mount Pleasant golfers Kyle Spencer and Kent Lawrence will both compete in the 2014 Optimist International Junior Golf Championships July 21-23 at the PGA National Resort and Spa in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.

Spencer and Lawrence both finished in the top five of the boys 14-15 division in the Optimist Junior Golf regional tournament at Barefoot Resort in Myrtle Beach in February to qualify.

Spencer shot a five-over-par 149 through 36 holes, and shot par through the final three holes of his second round to force a one-hole playoff for first place. In the playoff, Spencer again made par to earn the winner's trophy.

Lawrence entered the second round in first place with a two-stroke lead and finished the tournament in third with a 152.

The Optimist International Junior Golf Championship is billed as one of the largest junior tournaments in the world with more than 600 participants annually. Forty-two states, six Canadian provinces and 20 countries are represented in the field. Seven participants from this year's Masters tournament have competed in the Optimist International Junior championships, including Jason Day, Ernie Els, Phil Mickelson and Bill Haas.
