Letters to the Editor

Wanna know why the president of the College of Charleston should be an administrator and not an academic? Just review the recent decision made by the former president, Benson, as he overruled the athletic director, instead of firing him outright, based on outrageous conduct and abuse directed to student athletes on the basketball team. He resorted to the time-tested tenure methodology of an academic with suspension and counseling.

Now the college is really crammed hard between a rock and a hard place as they face a significant financial hit based on a very generously packaged contract.

I somehow feel that if the current president, Glenn McConnell, had been in place at the time, he would have supported Joe Hull and got on with the business of a new year, a new coach and a new outlook supported by ambitious and meaningful recruiting without a cloud of doubt that many parents of future players will be wary of right now.

As Gene Sapakoff said in his July 12 column, hire Anthony Johnson, heal many wounds and put an established well-known local athlete with some coaching experience in charge, and get on with the upcoming season maybe it can still be saved.

Performance

It is time to hold President Obama responsible for his lack of leadership and his blatant disregard of the United States Constitution by using executive orders to overide the will of Congress.

Also, his Democratic administration failures need to be fixed. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid continues to block legislation in the Senate.

How can any thinking voter condone these failures? It is time to get America back on the right track and replace those Democrats in the 2014 and 2016 elections.

America, please wake up.
