National Hot Dog Day at The Roo

  • Thursday, July 17, 2014

Kangaroo Express, the leading independently operated convenience store chain in the southeastern United States, operated by The Pantry, Inc. (Nasdaq: PTRY), today announced it will once again celebrate National Hot Dog Day on July 23. As a token of appreciation for our Armed Services, Kangaroo Express will offer a free hot dog to any customer with a military I.D. that stops by its nearly 1,200 grill-ready Kangaroo Express convenience stores between 6 a.m. and 11:59 p.m. In addition, guests who present the Kangaroo Express mobile app on their phone will receive a coupon voucher for a free hot dog.

Guests can stop by any participating Kangaroo Express on Wednesday, July 23 from 4 to 8 p.m. to enjoy 50-cent Ball Park® hot dogs (limit four per guest). Paired with a ROO Cup refill, guests can pick up a dog and a drink for just 75 cents.

The hot dog has long been a part of iconic American celebrations and pastimes, including Independence Day and summer baseball games. Pairing perfectly with American pride, Kangaroo Express guests can enjoy their Ball Park® hot dog while supporting the military men and women who protect our freedom by donating to the Salute Our Troops® campaign.

“With more than one-third of our employees having a direct connection to the military, we are proud to support the military community all year long and are continually inspired by the generosity of our guests,” said Gordon Schmidt, senior vice president of operations, Kangaroo Express. “We invite our guests to help us add a side of patriotic relish to National Hot Dog Day by enjoying an all-American classic and supporting the troops who protect our freedom every day.”

Donations from the campaign will support the American Red Cross Service to Armed Forces, providing emergency communications, comfort and assistance to military, veterans and their families; Fisher House Foundation, donating “comfort homes” at major military and VA medical centers that enable military families to be close to a loved one during hospitalization; the United States Veterans Corps, a corps of military veterans, spouses, dependents and patriotic citizens performing hands on community service with a mission and deployment attitude, as well as six state-based military support organizations.

Since its commencement in 2011, the Salute Our Troops campaign has raised $8.4 million dollars, breaking fundraising records for many of its beneficiary organizations.
