Cypress Gardens is offering up two wonderful workshops, taking place July 26 and 27, where anyone can learn to create their very own garden ornaments.
At the Hypertufa Workshop, lasting from 9-11:30 a.m., learn how to make molds and mix tufa cement. Students will make a stepping stone and a flower pot that will end up looking like old tufa stoneware. Return Sunday at 1 p.m. to unmold your projects and learn concrete carving and finishing techniques. Admission is $35 and the class is limited to 15 students.
The Sand Cast Leaf Workshop will also take place that weekend. Using real leaves, collected from Cypress Gardens, as molds, learn to make decorative ornaments for your garden. On Saturday, from 1 to 3 p.m., you will learn to mix a special Portland cement formula and cast three to four leaves depending on the size. The next day, from 1-3 p.m., you will unmold your leaves and learn to trim and paint them. Large leaves make great birdbaths and small leaves make good soap dishes or wall art. Admission is $30.
