Legendary 1st Marine Division to reunite in Charleston

The 67th annual reunion of the veterans of the legendary “Blue Diamond Division,” the 1st Marine Division, will be conducted in Charleston, South Carolina during the week of Aug. 11-17.

Veterans of the 1st Marine Division from all eras will gather in historic Charleston to celebrate the 72nd anniversary of the Battle for Guadalcanal at their annual reunion. All marines and sailors who served in, were attached to, or in support of the 1st Marine Division in any era, are cordially invited to participate in reunion activities.

Reunion headquarters is the Embassy Suites Hotel in North Charleston (near the airport and convention center). Many terrific reunion activities have been planned, including the first annual Blue Diamond Classic Golf Championship (Tuesday, Aug. 12, at Shadowmoss Plantation Country Club), tours to Boone Hall Plantation and Patriots Point, a dinner cruise, a tour of MCRD Parris Island, annual 1st Marine Division Banquet on Saturday evening.

The commanding general of the 1st Marine Division, Major General Larry Nicholson, USMC, who is a graduate of The Citadel, will be in attendance at the reunion as guest of honor.
