Ru Concept, Inc., announced the premiere of the Charleston-based, food-centric documentary “Overalls and Aprons.” The film will explore sustainable farming through the lens of eight celebrated chefs and beloved Lowcountry farmers and fisherman in Charleston, South Carolina.
Genre cinematographer Thibaut Fagonde directed and produced the film with assistance from executive producer and wife, Jessica Boylston-Fagonde. The couple is looking forward to continuing collaboration with local Charleston artisans and sustainability advocates to raise awareness and spread knowledge of the film's central concept.
The documentary features several admired Charleston chefs including James Beard winners chef Mike Lata of FIG and The Ordinary and chef Sean Brock of Husk and McCradys along with renowned Charleston talent such as chef Kevin Johnson of The Grocery, chef Frank Lee of Slightly North of Broad and Maverick Southern Kitchens, chef Nico Romo of Fish Restaurant and Patrick Properties and chef Jeremiah Bacon of The Macintosh and Oak Steakhouse. Local farmers and fisherman from Sea Island Dairy, Anson Mills, Ambrose Farms, Geechie Boy Mill and Market, Abundant Seafood, Rosebank Farms, Lowland Farms, Rebellion Farms and Farmer Sam also appear in the documentary. The documentary highlights community organizations, businesses and educational institutions that assist in educating the public about the demand for these professions and the need for a local sustainable food infrastructure.
“Overalls and Aprons” will have its premiere in Charleston this fall with an intimate viewing of the film along with tastes of Charleston's renowned cuisine and participation with local vendors and purveyors.
