Mount Pleasant Track Club sends 33 to nationals

Mount Pleasant Track Club (MPTC) has 33 athletes competing in the USA Track and Field National Junior Olympic Outdoor Championship this week at Turner Stadium in Humble, Texas.

Competing against the best junior track athletes from South Carolina, Georgia and Florida, MPTC qualified 44 athletes in 56 events at the USATF Junior Olympic Region 4 qualifier at Winthop earlier this month.

Seven MPTC athletes won Region 4 championships. Jacob Wilkins won the 15-18 year-old hammer throw; Liam Christensen won the 15-16 javelin, Jessica Rumrill the 11-12 high jump, Omega Smalls the 17-18 high jump, Kristin Fairey the 15-16 1,500-meter dash, Colin Baker the 13-14 3,000-meter dash, and Nick Welborn the 8U javelin. Christensen and Smalls enter the week ranked No. 1 in the nation in their events.

Also competing this week: Alison Kirsling (8U shot-put), Ginger Arnold (9-10 javelin), Ally Dominiak (9-10 shot-put), Troy Cocco (9-10 javelin), Georgia Arnold (11-12 javelin), Chloe Berda (11-12 javelin, 1,500), Jayla Grant (11-12 shot-put), Dylan Bouchelle (11-12 javelin, 3,000), Ethan Cocco (11-12 javelin, discus, shot-put), Ziaire Coker (11-12 long jump), Haley Baker (13-14 triple jump, high jump), Zeniyah Lawrence (13-14 100m, long jump), Chandler Robinson (13-14 100, hurdles), Elijah baker (13-14 100, high jump), Colton Green (13-14 pole vault), Luke Pauldine (13-14 javelin), Jaxen Salam (13-14 javelin), Raena Burns (15-16 javelin), Maggie Henderson (15-16 javelin), Madison Salam (15-16 high jump), Eileen Stribling (15-16 discus), Caleb Anderson (15-16 high jump), Adele Blalock (17-18 pole vault), Callie McLean (17-18 javelin), Kendall Mercer (17-18 pole vault), Jonathan Ray (17-18 shot-put).
