Snee Farm swim team returned to championship form in dominant fashion last weekend to capture the 2014 Coastal Carolina Aquatic Association (CCAA) City Meet championship.

Chasing its first title in four years, Snee Farm turned in a commanding performance, leading the 22-team field from start to finish through the three-day event at the Crowfield Golf and Country Club in Goose Creek.

Despite a spirited day-three effort Sunday from three-time defending champion Coosaw Creek, Snee Farm’s 2,949.5 total points outpaced the Crocs by 369 points, the largest margin of victory at City Meet since 2006.

“I’m happy for everybody,” Snee Farm coach Jason Kreutner said. “Everybody in the league respects everyone else. We all make each other better. That’s the best part of competing at meets like this. We make each other better.”

Coosaw racked up more than 1,260 points through the 13-14 and 15-18 year-old events of day three to make the late jump two positions into second place in the championship standings.

Swimming in the last CCAA meet of their careers, Coosaw’s brother-sister tandem Jeremiah and Micah Bohon both became the first five-event winners in City Meet history. Jeremiah won the boys 15-18 butterfly, breaststroke, individual medley and freestyle relay, while Micah won the girls 15-18 butterfly, backstroke, individual medley and freestyle relay. The two were both on Coosaw’s champion 15-18 mixed medley relay team.

Snee Farm and Coosaw finished in the top two slots at City Meet for the seventh consecutive season. Daniel Island finished third overall for the sixth straight season. Northbridge Terrace took fourth, followed by Shadowmoss, Hobcaw and Dunes West.

“Our league is full of vibrant and growing competition,” Kreutner said. “It’s a nice sign of the health of the league to see everyone competing this weekend.”

Jack Story won the boys 15-18 backstroke for Snee Farm and took second in the butterfly and individual medley. Northbridge’s Abigail Boling took second in the girls 15-18 butterfly and breaststroke. Daniel Island’s Malek Varner won the boys 15-18 freestyle, and Hobcaw’s Julia Zimlich won the girls 13-14 backstroke.

CCAA awarded college scholarship money to 65 graduating seniors who together totaled 614 years of summer swimming. Brickyard’s Trace Hall was awarded the Carolyn Y. Keller Memorial Scholarship for academics. Shadowmoss, Sha-Mel-Lon and the Jewish Community Center were awarded the CCAA sportsmanship awards.

“I feel lucky,” Kreutner said. “It’s great competing in a league like this. If we never win another one, we can still feel good about what we did this weekend.”
