Winners of the 2014 Certified Authentic 100 percent Made in Charleston Awards will be announced on Thursday, July 24, during a ceremony at the Charleston City Market. The honorable Mayor Joseph Riley will salute Charleston’s cultural artisans and craftspeople at 7 p.m. near the intersection of Anson and North Market streets, and the public is invited to attend the festivities.
This year marks the second annual Certified Authentic 100 percent Made in Charleston Awards, which recognizes the range of high-quality, locally produced handcrafted products available at the Charleston City Market.
In 2013, Mayor Riley bestowed Certified Authentic 100 percent Made in Charleston Awards upon 98 recipients, including 39 sweetgrass basket weavers. This year will recognize an even greater number of talented Charlestonians.
“I am pleased to be able to recognize some of these vendors,” says Mayor Riley. “The Charleston City Market has implemented standards which support more local businesses and offer residents and visitors an opportunity to purchase our local products.”
