Mount Pleasant Track Club’s Chloe Berda earned All-American honors Wednesday at the USA Track and Field National Junior Olympic Outdoor Championship.
Berda threw a new personal best 30.78 meters in the 11-12 year-old javelin to earn eighth overall in the 43-player field at Turner Stadium in Humble, Texas. Her throw was less than a meter from falling inside the top four.
Including Berda, Mount Pleasant Track Club (MPTC) placed eight athletes inside the top 30 of their respective events.
Colton Green placed 12th (2.55) in the 13-14 pole vault, Nick Welborn 12th (19.84) in the 8U javelin, Georgia Arnold 15th (23.96) in the 9-10 javelin, Jacob Wilkins 14th (36.19) in the 15-18 hammer throw, Kristin Fairey 23rd (2:24) in the 15-16 800-meter dash, Ginger Arnold 25th (16.77) in the 9-10 javelin, and Ethan Cocco 29th (9.09) in the 11-12 javelin.
MPTC returns to competition Thursday with a large number athletes still to compete in several age groups, including Liam Christensen in the 15-16 javelin and Omega Smalls in the 17-18 high jump. Both Christensen and Smalls are ranked No. 1 in the nation in their events.
