Mount Pleasant's Liam Christensen captured the gold medal in the 15-16 year-old boys javelin throw at the USA Track and Field National Junior Olympic Outdoor Championship last week in Humble, Texas.
Christensen' final attempt sailed 57.81 meters, claiming first place by a half-meter and earning Mount Pleasant Track Club (MPTC) its first national championship.
Including Christensen, MPTC garnered All-American honors in seven events.
Omega Smalls earned third (2.05m) in the boys 17-18 high jump. Jayla Grant set a new personal record with her fifth throw to take third (11.27m) in the girls 11-12 shot-put. Zeniyah Lawrence finished fourth (12.3 seconds) in the girls 13-14 100-meter dash. Troy Cocco took sixth (30.70) in the boys 9-10 javelin. Ethan Cocco placed seventh (39.48) in the boys 11-12 javelin, and Chloe Berda earned eighth (30.78) with a new personal best in the girls 11-12 javelin.
