MPPD unveils new crime prevention vehicle

  • Wednesday, July 30, 2014

The Mount Pleasant Police Department (MPPD) recently unveiled their new crime prevention vehicle that will be hitting the streets. It is a 2015 Ford Escape that has had the outside wrapped in different crime prevention tips. Chief Ritchie was looking for something that would catch the eye of other drivers and serve as a reminder when parked at different functions.

One of the first events in which this new vehicle will be participating is National Night Out on Aug. 5. “Officers will be set up in two locations this year. One at the Park West Swim and Tennis Center and one at the Remley’s Point Community Center,” said Inspector Chip Googe. “The event will last from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., ending with a walk through each of the respective neighborhoods.”

The MPPD will have numerous bureaus on display such as K9 officers, bike team, patrol and the new MRAP (Mine Resistant Ambush Protected) vehicle. There will be pizza and drinks for everyone. The Mount Pleasant Fire Department will also have their smokehouse and fire trucks on display.

The police department will also have a dunking booth with an officer inside, as well as child ID and fingerprinting kits available from N.Y. Life Insurance.

The last hour of the event, attendees will be walking through each of the neighborhoods to show how communities and the Mount Pleasant Police Department are standing together to fight crime.
