Officer Gillespie was honored as Police Officer of the Year. PROVIDED

Every year, the Exchange Club of Mount Pleasant honors one brave local police officer whose work has been an inspiration to the department and community.

The officer selected has gone above and beyond the call of duty. This year the club chose to honor Officer Alex Gillespie.

Mount Pleasant Police Department Officer Alex Gillespie was also recognized at the June 11, 2013 Mount Pleasant Town Council meeting for foiling an armed robbery in progress, saving two residents, leading to the arrest of three suspects.

Officer Gillespie was also chosen as Police Officer of the Year for the Mount Pleasant Police Department.

The Exchange Club of Mount Pleasant meets the second and fourth Wednesday of every month at noon. Meetings take place at Zeus Grill and Seafood, located at 725 Johnnie Dodds Blvd. in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina.
