Coastal Christian’s varsity cheerleading squad won first place at the Fellowship of Christian Cheerleaders (FCC) summer camp last month at Westminster Catawba Christian in Rock Hill.

Coastal’s top finish qualifies the team for the FCC National Christian Cheerleading Championships Jan. 1-3 in Orlando, Florida.

“The girls went to Rock Hill back in June not knowing what to expect,” Coastal varsity cheer coach Shannon Lindsey said. “In the end, though, all 13 girls came home with smiles, memories, new friendships, awards and memories.”

The Cougars cheerleaders earned the Eye of the Tiger final evaluation award, the Safety Award, two sideline chant superior ribbons, a home cheer ribbon and the Spirit Stick.

To earn the Eye of the Tiger award, the Cougars had to learn and perform a routine of sideline chants, cheers, stunts, jumps and transitions in less than a day. The Safety Award was given for demonstrating proper technique, and the Spirit Stick was awarded to the most enthusiastic, excited and positive teams.

The Coastal cheer squad also donated $100 to a camp instructor who was headed on a mission trip the week after camp.
