A Mount Pleasant man will soon celebrate the release of his first novel, “Occam's Razor,” available from Moonshine Cove Publishing.
Written by Dr. Roger B. Newman, a faculty member in the OB-GYN department of MUSC, the book tells the story of a troubled doctor who becomes entangled in a world of drug smuggling, political intrigue, and romance, all set before the backdrop of the Lowcountry. The book's hero and heroine's escape takes them to one touchstone location after another. The story also has historical content as it occurs in the wake of the Operation Jackpot federal drug sting of 1983.
The settings for this high-stakes medical thriller include MUSC, south of Broad Street, the Cannon Street YMCA, Captain Harry's Blue Marlin, Big John's Tavern, the Variety Store, the Blue Hawaiian, Moultrie High School, Highway 17, Garden City, Sam's Corner, Brookgreen Gardens and more.
Newman has been a resident of Charleston since 1976 and Mount Pleasant since 1993. He hopes to share his special point of view about the area and its culture.
