New board members join East Cooper Medical Center

East Cooper Medical Center recently introduced its newest governing board members, John “Johnnie” J. Dodds III and Thomasena Stokes-Marshall.

Dodds received his law degree from the University of South Carolina and was previously a Mount Pleasant Municipal Court judge. He has been a member of the board of directors for the Mount Pleasant Scholarship Foundation and is currently serving as the town prosecutor for Sullivan's Island.

Stokes-Marshall, a member of Mount Pleasant Town Council since 1998, has served on numerous nonprofit boards in Mount Pleasant and Charleston. In 2004, she formed the Sweetgrass Cultural Arts Festival Association. Additionally, she helped to establish the Trident Technical College Mount Pleasant Campus and the Senior Service Center in Mount Pleasant. She also serves on the East Cooper Medical Center Women's Advisory Board.

Additional East Cooper Medical Center Governing Board members include: Judy Burnstein; James E. Craigie, MD; Leonard C. Fulghum Jr., chairman emeritus; Molly Joseph, MD; Kevin Keenan, MD; Francine Mitchell; John H. Mitchell, MD; Rex Morgan, MD; Danny Mullis, chairperson; Pat Walker; and Jason Alexander, chief executive officer

The responsibilities of the East Cooper Medical Center Governing Board include recommending hospital policy, promoting patient safety, performance improvement and quality patient care in addition to participating in planning for the hospital. The governing board has ultimate responsibility and authority for safety and quality of care, treatment and services rendered in the hospital.

“We are excited that Thomasena and Johnnie have joined our governing board. They bring a lengthy community commitment to East Cooper Medical Center. Their experiences and talents will benefit us all,” said Danny Mullis, board chair.

They have dedicated their careers to serving the local community and the hospital is honored to have them help support our mission of providing quality patient care,” stated Jason Alexander, CEO of East Cooper Medical Center.
