The Patriots Point Naval and Maritime Museum will be partnering with the 1st Marine Division Association during their 67th annual reunion to host a meet and greet with Marines who fought in World War II, the Korean War and Vietnam.
Museum visitors will have a unique opportunity to meet some of the nation’s bravest heroes and hear their personal war stories from the Battles of Guadalcanal, Peleliu, Chosin Reservoir, Hue and more.
The meet and greet will be on Wednesday, Aug. 13, in the USS Yorktown’s Hangar Bay II. It will start at 11 a.m. and last approximately one hour. Marines who are members of the Marine Corps League or Lowcountry Leathernecks will be offered free admission. For others, the event will be included in the normal museum ticket price.
The legendary 1st Marine Division, nicknamed the “Blue Diamond Division,” has been part of every major United States conflict since World War I and has earned more than 20 unit citations for their outstanding performance and sacrifice during battle.
The meet and greet is part of the Patriots Point Naval and Maritime Museum’s ongoing efforts to commemorate the 70th anniversary of WWII and the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War.
