'The Voice' star to headline water festival

  • Friday, August 8, 2014

After placing in the top 10 on NBC's “The Voice,” Kat Robichaud is riding the wave to launch her new glam rock album.

Supporters blew past her $40,000 Kickstarter goal which now sits at more than $80,000, all hoping to get her new CD in early September. Kat has moved to San Francisco to pursue her career as a touring musician, but will return to her southern roots to premiere her new album on Aug. 31 when she performs at Joe Riley Stadium.

She expects fans from all over the Southeast to flock to The Joe for this sneak preview of the album. Those who became fans during her stint on “The Voice” will also enjoy the cover songs that left the audience cheering and the judges fighting over her talent. She will be joined in Charleston by her favorite cover band musicians, The Darling Misfit. They hit the stage as the event headliner at 6:30 p.m.

Robichaud's Aug. 31 performance is part of the DELUGE concert, featuring 300,000 gallons of water, three local bands and water-based games and fun. According to event producer, Rebecca Gosnell, “No one in their right mind would turn out for an outdoor concert in August, unless of course it was under a deluge of water. So, we will be pumping 300,000 gallons over the stadium seats, down from the second floor roof and from the sprinkler system on the field that will be redirected into the stands.”

Guests are also encouraged to come armed with water blasters for some good, clean fun and will find “fueling stations” throughout the stadium to reload and keep cool.

Other musical guests are the Dead 27's, South Street and Royal Tinfoil. Gates open at 3 p.m. Advanced tickets are $15 and $20 day of the show. To purchase online, go to www.delugecharleston.com or you may purchase from the Charleston RiverDogs box office.
