The Crabpot Players Theatre is pleased to present “Passato Prossimo,” by Mount Pleasant artist, painter and printmaker Gabrielle Wolfe. This collection of works will be her first solo show featuring a selection of paintings, prints and photographs inspired by her recent studies abroad and her travels throughout Europe.
The opening reception of “Passato Prossimo” will be held at the Crabpot Players Theatre on Aug. 16 from 6 to 8 p.m. The exhibition will be on view through September and is free and open to the public. A complimentary aperitivo accompanied by Italian wines and soft drinks will be offered.
“Passato Prossimo,” or “past tense” in Italian, is a collection of oil paintings, prints and mixed media highlighting the relevance of the past and the accumulation and disintegration of memories. The artist's personal past experiences are incorporated into screen print and mixed media with the layering of small paper relics and samples of color, line and texture.
Her oil paintings expand from a personal to a collective past tense celebrating the great wealth and art history that resides in Florence, Italy. Using samples of sketches and photos, Wolfe synthesized sections of statues and sculptures into reinvented images.
Her photographs, spanning seven countries visited over the span of five months, further explore the relevance of collective memories in the preservation of the arts. “Passato Prossimo” will be on display on Aug. 16 at the Crabpot Players Theatre, the only community theatrical venue east of the Cooper.
