Marauders donate flotation devices

  • Thursday, August 14, 2014

On July 24, the Marion Marauders Society were honored to present four personal flotation devices (PFDs) to the Mount Pleasant Fire Department for use on the recently dedicated fire boat, Marine 501. These flotation devices are not as bulky or cumbersome as the standard flotation devices but offer the same

protection and will immediately inflate upon entry into the water.

“We have been working on getting these devices for the fire department so some time, and due to an unexpected anonymous donation, we were able to purchase them earlier than expected” stated retired Sgt. Maj. Cecil Evans, president of the society. “Our desire to make the community and ‘our home,' a more safe and secure environment, validates this presentation at the highest level” Evans added.

The society is morale, welfare and recreational organization affiliated with the locally based Army National Guard unit on Mathis Ferry Road. The society has been in existence since 1949 and was named in honor of General Francis Marion, the “Swamp Fox.”
