Sertoma Football Classic Day One scoreboard

The 44th annual Sertoma Football Classic ushered in a new year of high school football Thursday with 12 Lowcountry teams on display at Johnson Hagood Stadium.

No East Cooper teams played in Day One of the two-day jamboree but several of their regular-season opponents took the field.

Porter-Gaud shutout Lincoln, 15-0, in the nightís opener. The Cyclones open the season against Palmetto Christian next week and travel to Bishop England Sept. 12.

Cane Bayís second string defeated Baptist Hill 13-6. Cane Bay opens the regular season tonight against Colleton County and will host Wando in a Region VII game Oct. 31.

Summerville and Hanahan finished in a scoreless tie as both teams played their backups with Week 0 games to play tonight. Bishop England travels to Hanahan Sept. 5. Wando visits Summerville Sept. 19.

Class AA Timberland scored twice in the final five minutes of the second quarter to get past Class AAAA Stratford 13-9 in a two-quarter scrimmage. Timberland and Bishop England meet Sept. 19 on Daniel Island. Region foes Wando and Stratford collide Oct. 17 in Mount Pleasant.

St. Johnís shutout James Island 6-0. Wando closes out the regular season Nov. 7 against James Island.

Goose Creek ran away with a 27-8 win over West Ashley in the nightís two-quarter finale. The Gators built a 20-0 lead through the first quarter and held the Wildcats scoreless until the final two minutes of the scrimmage. Wando travels to West Ashley Oct. 10 and hosts Goose Creek Oct. 24.
