The Mount Pleasant Fire Department (MPFD) has gone social with the launch of a new Facebook page and a Twitter account, @MountPleasantFD. Fire Chief Herb Williams also recently launched his own Twitter account, @MPFDChief, and is sending daily updates.
In less than a month, MPFD has received more than 3,700 likes and posted pictures of training events, department milestones, new apparatus, promotions and more.
“If the Mount Pleasant Fire Department is to remain competitive and relevant, we must continue to master new and emerging communications tools,” said Chief Williams. “Our presence on major social media sites allows us to engage our residents in dynamic and interactive ways. We are part of a greater visual web, and we plan to tell our story in compelling ways with the use of photo galleries and videos.”
The fire department recently wrapped up the production of two public service announcement videos and plans to produce two additional videos for the month of October.
“October is National Fire Prevention Month and serves as an excellent time to examine your preparedness. Do you have a home fire escape plan? Have you changed you smoke detector batteries within the last year? Do you know the main reasons for fires starting in the home?” asked Chief Williams. “Our videos will show easy ways to keep your family and your home safe. They are filmed in-house and feature real firefighters and their families. Look for our posts, tweets and videos.”
