The Kitty Trask Holt Fund for Scleroderma Research will be holding a fundraising event Sunday, Sept. 28, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Harborside East, 28 Bridgeside Blvd. in Mount Pleasant.

This gala and silent auction will support MUSC's Scleroderma Research Program.

Heavy hors d'oeuvres and drinks are included for $25 per person. All proceeds from ticket purchases and the silent and live auctions will go to benefit the Kitty Holt Fund for Scleroderma Research.

Dr. Carol Feghali-Bostwick, newly appointed chairholder of the Kitty Trask Holt Endowed Chair, will present her exciting discovery.

For more information, contact MUSC and the Kitty Holt Gala and Silent Auction Committee at colkr@musc.edu or 843-792-3403. Tickets can be purchased at www.musc.edu/giving/kitty.

Scleroderma, or systemic sclerosis, is an autoimmune connective-tissue disease in which the body's immune system leads to an overproduction of collagen that is then deposited in the skin, blood vessels and internal organs. This often results in hardening of the skin and decreased function of organs, such as the lungs and gastrointestional tract.

Kitty Trask Holt had been living with scleroderma for about 25 years before her death in 2008. Because of Kitty and her determination to help others who suffer from scleroderma, the Kitty Trask Holt Endowed Chair was created, which provides so many patients and their families a renewed hope that a cure is on the way. Dr. Feghali-Bostwick's research at MUSC has resulted in the development of a potential therapy that is likely to be approved.
